The role

Aurora is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Core Services team to design and implement backend systems for managing and scaling its autonomous vehicle fleet. The role involves building micro-backend architectures, fleet management solutions, and vehicle communication systems in AWS. The engineer will collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to deliver high-availability, safety-critical services.

What you would do

Design complex systems from the ground up.
Partner with software, hardware, and infrastructure engineering teams.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and operations stakeholders.
Design, implement, and maintain a micro-backend architecture in AWS.
Design and implement fleet management and vehicle communication systems.
Establish technology and infrastructure for high availability and reliability.

Must have

7+ years building backend services.
Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
Experience with REST, gRPC, and GraphQL.
Experience building large-scale, high-concurrency backend services.
Phenomenal communication skills.
Preference for action and good judgment.
Drive to make teams stronger.
Motivation to own product lifecycle end to end.

Nice to have

Experience with embedded autonomous vehicle development.
Experience with IoT and real-time device-cloud communication.
Experience with feature flagging, A/B testing, canary releases.
Experience with observability and monitoring of safety-critical systems.
Experience with fleet management for robots, vehicles, or drones.
Experience with external customer-facing software and production rollout.
Experience with safety and mission-critical applications.
