What happened to Sonara AI? BOLD bought it and it is live again
We make Apiva. Read this knowing that.
Sonara AI shut down in February 2024, and BOLD bought the brand later that year. Sonara's site is serving pages again as of 22 October 2026, the day we checked, and BOLD lists Sonara among the products it runs.
Both halves of that are true, and most of what you will find on this question gives you only the first one. So here is the whole thing, with dates and sources, and a plain list of what we could not check.
What happened to Sonara, in order
Sonara was an early auto-apply service. You uploaded a résumé, it found jobs and applied on your behalf. That pitch sold well, and then it stopped.
Teal's review of Sonara, published 27 August 2024, says it plainly: "On February 1, 2024, Sonara announced they were shutting down the platform and their services." Teal says it verified that date against the former chief executive's LinkedIn profile.
Resumly's page on the same question, last updated 13 June 2026, puts it the same way. Sonara "shut down abruptly on February 1, 2024", after failing to raise the money it needed.
One source declines to be that precise. LifeShack's guide, last updated 25 September 2026, says BOLD's own records establish an acquisition year and not an exact shutdown, handover or relaunch date, and that the cause of the interruption cannot be established from public sources. LifeShack also removed a precise timeline from an earlier version of its own page. We did not find an announcement from Sonara itself, so the 1 February 2024 date rests on the two pages above.
Then the second half. BOLD's company history page, read on 22 October 2026, lists this under 2024: "BOLD acquires ResumeBuilder.com and Sonara.ai, the first-ever AI-powered job search platform." BOLD describes itself as "the largest global career technology company", and lists Sonara beside Monster, CareerBuilder, FlexJobs, Zety, LiveCareer and My Perfect Resume.
That is the acquisition, from the buyer's own website. What it does not tell you is what happened to any individual account.
What Sonara's pages say today
We read Sonara's site on 22 October 2026. Its homepage says the platform "continuously finds and applies to relevant job openings until you're hired", and offers to "Submit 10x as many applications with less effort than one manual application".
The privacy policy, last updated 21 July 2026, is more specific about the mechanism. "The Service uses AI LLMs to search for job postings that match Users' preferences" and "applies to these jobs on the User's behalf at their request". The same page names the operator: "The Site is operated by BOLD LLC, City View Plaza II, Suite 6000, 48 Road 165, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico 00968."
The terms name two companies. Your contract is with BOLD LLC (352385) at Guaynabo, and "Auxiliant S.à.r.l (B199343) may additionally act in our contract as a merchant of record". Together they are called "Provider", and "The Site is operated by Provider."
Two lines in those terms matter more than the rest. Renewal can arrive early, because the subscription renews "prior to your next renewal date or before submitting your 11th application, whichever comes first". And on money back: "Provider does not guarantee refunds", with "no prorated credit" for a part-used month.
People are still using it. Trustpilot showed Sonara at 3.8 out of 5 from 100 reviews when we read it on 22 October 2026, labelled Great, with 42 of those written in the previous 12 months. The newest review was dated 7 October 2026, and Sonara had replied to a one-star review from the day before, describing "a 14-day paid trial period" that becomes a monthly subscription if you do not cancel.
What we could not verify
Three things, and they are the three you would most want.
No price is published. sonara.ai/pricing returned a 404 on 22 October 2026, and we found no plan price on the homepage or in the terms we read. Other sites print figures for Sonara. We could not find any of them on a Sonara page, so we are not printing them here.
The site is up. That is not the same as the product working for you. Sonara's pages did not answer our plain page requests, so we read them through a text reader instead, and Resumly reports the same trouble. We did not create an account, upload a résumé, or send an application. A live homepage is evidence that the company is still running. It is not proof that a signup completes.
Old accounts. Nothing we read establishes whether an account from before 2024 still exists, or whether its history moved to BOLD. LifeShack looked at the same question and reached the same dead end.
Who still says Sonara shut down
Teal's page is the one that reads as current and is not. It was published on 27 August 2024, nearly seven months after the shutdown, and it still describes the company as it was that summer.
Resumly gets closer. Its page says Sonara "shut down abruptly on February 1, 2024", then says, in the same piece, "Yes, sonara.ai is live again as of June 2026".
LifeShack corrected itself. Its guide now says Sonara "should not be described as permanently closed", and carries a note that an earlier version "said Sonara's journey had ended" and that "those statements are not a reliable description of the current service". LifeShack sells a competing service and says so on the page.
We wrote about the trial, the reviews and the renewal clock in our Sonara review, published five days before this post.
If you were paying Sonara when it stopped
Your route is the merchant name on your card statement. We cannot tell you which entity that was in early 2024, and the terms naming BOLD LLC and Auxiliant S.à.r.l are the current ones.
If you are on a plan now, cancelling happens through the Settings page after you log in, or through customer service. Sonara's terms say cancelling "will not result in the cancellation or withdrawal of any job applications". Cancel inside a trial and the terms say they may refund you. Cancel after one and they say they do not guarantee it.
If you are choosing a tool this month
Read the renewal trigger before you type a card number. On Sonara's terms, "before submitting your 11th application" can arrive well inside a 14-day trial if you apply in volume. A trial that ends on an application count is two clocks, and the second one is easy to miss.
Apiva runs the other way. There is a free tier of 25 applications a month with no card, so nothing renews while you decide. Paid plans are $19 a month for 200 applications, $39 for 600 and $99 for 1,500, and a credit is spent only once a submission is confirmed. When a form asks something we cannot answer from your profile, the application waits and asks you rather than guessing. The pricing page has the rest.
If you want the shape of this market rather than one vendor, two more products get the same treatment here: LazyApply and JobCopilot.
Bottom line
Sonara is not gone. It shut down in February 2024, BOLD bought it, and its site is serving pages again. Its price is still unpublished, and nobody outside BOLD can tell you what happened to a pre-2024 account.
If you want to look, the site is there. Check the renewal line before you start anything, and check a few of the applications it says it sent in the employer's own portal. That last step is worth doing whoever you use.
