Why it underperforms

Diagnosis is only valuable when something was then fixed or avoided, and the verb has no room for that, so the bullet stops at the moment of understanding. In clinical contexts the word is regulated and precise; in technical ones it competes with "debugged" and "troubleshot", which are more concrete about the activity.
