Why it underperforms
It is an assessment of your own work presented as a description of it, and that is why it reads as thin. Novelty is something a reader decides after seeing what you built, so claiming it upfront asks for a judgement you have not yet given them the evidence to make. It is also intransitive as commonly used, which means the sentence often contains no object at all.
