The role
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for establishing and maturing the application security program across Faria's suite of education products. The role involves defining secure SDLC practices, selecting and integrating security tooling, managing vulnerabilities, and improving cloud security posture. The position reports to the VP of Engineering and partners with the vCISO and DevOps teams.

What you would do
- Conduct initial security assessment and prioritize risks
- Establish and own application security program across all products
- Define and embed secure software development lifecycle practices
- Select and deploy AppSec tooling integrated into CI/CD
- Implement secrets management with detection and rotation
- Build risk-based vulnerability management and drive remediation
Must have
- 7+ years in application or product security
- Experience standing up or maturing an AppSec program
- Strong AI knowledge and curiosity for proactive protection
- Comfortable as founding hands-on solo security function
- Self-directed and pragmatic under ambiguity
- Breadth across Ruby on Rails, PHP/Laravel, .NET/C#, Python
- Deep expertise in one or two of those stacks
- Strong cloud security across AWS and Azure
- Deep grasp of common vulnerability classes
- Hands-on with AppSec tooling and CI/CD integration
- Threat-modeling experience
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
Nice to have
- GitHub Advanced Security experience
- Worked with student data or PII-heavy regulated environments
- Experience with FERPA, COPPA, or GDPR for UK/EU students
- Proven experience managing large vulnerability backlogs
- Ability to classify and deduplicate vulnerabilities across repositories
